What is RECA ?
The RECA (Réseau des Écoles françaises de Cinéma d’Animation) is a non-profit association, recognized as serving the public interest, that brings together French schools of animation and VFX — whether public, private, or consular. Created with the support of key institutional and professional bodies such as the CNC, the AnimFrance union, and FICAM, RECA positions itself as a collective reference point for animation education in France.
Its ambition is to provide clarity and transparency by offering prospective students and their families reliable benchmarks regarding academic offerings, career prospects, learning conditions, and more. The network also upholds a set of shared values: collaboration, transparency, ethical conduct, respect for diverse pedagogical approaches, and a commitment to student well-being.
Why a “RECA Label” — and what does it entail?
In response to the rapid growth of animation schools and programs, RECA deemed it necessary, starting in 2023-2024, to initiate a certification process for its member schools.
Objectives of the Label
Provide a common framework for comparing schools: number of students per class, program length and intensity, diploma or certificate awarded, success rates, total hours, technical resources available, etc.
- Ensure transparency regarding admission and costs: admission requirements, tuition fees, and actual career outcomes after graduation (employability, integration into the animation industry).
- Establish standards of practice and ethics: student life supervision, honest communication with the public, commitment to environmental responsibility, and prevention of misleading marketing practices.
The Labeling Process
The RECA label introduces new obligations for member schools: annual publication of standardized information, verification by an independent body, data updates, transparency regarding enrollment and refund procedures, and accurate information about programs.
In practice, an external audit (conducted by an independent firm) checks data compliance. The label is only awarded after approval by a certification committee associated with RECA’s Board of Directors.
The goal is not to impose a uniform pedagogy — RECA values diverse educational approaches — but to provide a transparent, comparable, and reliable framework that ensures credibility for students and their families.
MoPA: An Already Recognized School — What Does RECA Certification Change?
MoPA already holds state recognition for its “3D Animation” program (accredited diploma, Bac+5), as well as Qualiopi quality certification for its training process.
Internationally, MoPA is ranked among the top animation schools — a mark of both quality and prestige.
The RECA label further strengthens this recognition by offering:
An additional guarantee of transparency: standardized criteria ensure that admission data, career outcomes, program organization, etc., are presented clearly, coherently, and comparably — benefiting both prospective students and their families.
A mark of reliability and compliance: the external audit and certification confirm that MoPA follows best practices, reassuring students, parents, and industry recruiters alike.
Enhanced visibility within a recognized professional network: membership in the certified RECA network highlights MoPA as a committed, transparent institution aligned with industry standards.
Thus, the RECA label does not replace MoPA’s existing distinctions — it complements them as a mark of collective credibility, reinforcing the school’s reputation, building trust with prospective students, and helping structure the animation education landscape.
For Students and Families: Why It’s a Benefit
For prospective students (and their families), RECA certification offers concrete advantages:
Simplified comparison between animation schools: based on rigorous, consistent criteria, facilitating informed choices regarding program duration, costs, career prospects, student support, access to equipment, etc.
Greater transparency on expectations: actual career outcomes, quality of teaching, infrastructure, and alumni follow-up.
Increased security: the school commits to ethical standards (student well-being, honest communication, transparency about outcomes), reducing the risk of misleading promises.
Professional recognition: studying at a RECA-certified school means joining a recognized professional network, enhancing employability, networking opportunities, and visibility with animation studios.
The RECA certification represents a significant advancement for animation education by structuring the training landscape and imposing transparency and ethical standards, making a complex sector more navigable. For MoPA, already well-established academically and internationally, the label reinforces credibility, reassures prospective students and their families, and adds to its professional prestige.
In short: MoPA’s integration into the RECA-certified network is not just an additional logo — it is a visible commitment, a mark of reliability, and a concrete tool for information and trust for all stakeholders.
