« Le jour où j’ai léché un caillou » Selected for the BAFTA Longlist

The graduation film « Le jour où j’ai léché un caillou », created by MoPA graduates, has reached a new milestone in its international journey. On June 4, 2026, the team learned that the short film had been longlisted for the 2026 BAFTA Student Awards, one of the most prestigious distinctions for emerging talents in film and animation.

This longlist selection places the film among the most outstanding student projects of the year and once again confirms the international recognition of the expertise and talent of MoPA students.

A Place on the BAFTA Longlist Among Hundreds of Student Films

The BAFTA Student Awards are among the most prestigious student competitions in the world for film, audiovisual production, and animation. Each year, hundreds of films are submitted by more than 600 universities and schools worldwide.

In this highly competitive context, « Le jour où j’ai léché un caillou » was selected for the official ANIMATION category longlist, chosen by more than 300 BAFTA members, alongside only eight other projects. In other words, the film is one of only 9 student animated short films selected by BAFTA worldwide.

This first selection already represents an outstanding achievement for the film team. The projects on the longlist will now be screened, evaluated, and scored by BAFTA members to determine the three finalists, who will be announced during the week of June 22, 2026.

Key figures to remember:

  • More than 600 participating universities and schools worldwide
  • Hundreds of films in competition
  • 9 films selected for the ANIMATION category longlist
  • 3 finalists announced in late June
  • An awards ceremony held in Los Angeles on July 17, 2026

A Graduation Film Continuing Its International Journey

This BAFTA selection is part of an already remarkable journey for « Le jour où j’ai léché un caillou ». A few weeks earlier, the short film had already been chosen for the Official Selection of the Annecy International Animation Film Festival 2026, considered the world's leading event for animation.

These distinctions highlight both the artistic and technical quality of the project, as well as the collective work carried out by the students during their final year at MoPA.

Created as part of the school's 3D animation program, this graduation film joins the long list of MoPA student productions recognized at international festivals.

What Happens If the Film Becomes a Finalist?

The next milestone is now set for the week of June 22, 2026, when the BAFTA jury will reveal the three finalists in the ANIMATION category.

If « Le jour où j’ai léché un caillou » is among the selected projects, several members of the team will have the opportunity to travel to Los Angeles on July 17, 2026 to attend the official BAFTA Student Awards ceremony.

Beyond the prestige of the event, attending the ceremony in Los Angeles would provide a unique opportunity to meet industry professionals, expand their international network, and showcase the work produced at MoPA to key figures in the animation industry.
